Silk has been the baselayer of choice for over 300 years. Why? Because it is incredibly soft and comfortable against the skin. Although the basic materials of silk are still the same as always, the modern weaving techniques have made silk a better performance material and fabric then ever before.

Solarsilk is a modern update of the original that provides reasonable wicking performance, minimal moisture retention and effective durability combined with superb comfort. Silk's inherent slipperyness makes it slide beautifully between and under layers so you don't get any binding or chafing. It is also naturally antimicrobial and resists odors.

It is a superb material for liner socks and glove liners as well, providing an increase in insulation value of approximately 15 – 20% vs. no liner. This is because air is trapped against your skin in a micro-climate, keeping moisture one layer away.

Solarsilk is a totally natural fibre, with no heavy chemicals and no toxic antimicrobial treatments like synthetics (polyester and polypropelene).
